Home Phone Not Working

So, the customer's highspeed internet IS working, but they're not getting dial-tone on their CIA Home Phone.

Make sure the customer has their DSL or Cable modem, as well as their computer, plugged into right ports on the Voice Terminal.

If the customer has cable internet, there should be no further setup required to have the just the internet connection working itself, although we may need to do provisioning for the Voice Terminal to start sending and receiving phone calls.

However, for DSL, in order for the internet to work, we will need to go into the configuration page of the Voice Terminal.

Before we start any of this, reprovision the Voice terminal. (Linksys or Motorola)

After this, we can now setup the DSL connection. Ask the customer to:

  1. Go into their web browser and enter: http://192.168.0.1
  2. Click on the Router tab
  3. Click on the WAN Setup tab
  4. Ensure that Connection Type is set to: PPPoE
  5. For the PPPoE login name and password, enter as described in Manual Connections
  6. Click Submit All Changes

Power cycling the modem and Voice terminal should now initiate the DSL connection.

If the customer still doesn't get a dialtone, asking the customer for their light status and refer to one of these:

depending on what kind of Vt the customer is using.
